Vol. 6 [Publisher's Letter] A Successful Alumni Event and the Road Ahead

The inaugural Texas Global Alumni Summit has successfully come to a close. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the alumni who contributed their time and effort to make this event possible.

More than 140 alumni from 19 countries participated in the Summit, along with representatives from Korean universities engaged in collaboration with UT, as well as members of the University’s International Board of Advisors. This gathering served as a meaningful opportunity to elevate the presence of our alma mater across not only academia, but also a wide range of industries. The attention we received from major media outlets such as Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Ilbo, and Aju Business Daily also stands as a testament to the impact of this event.

I would also like to express my deep appreciation to Professor Sonia Feigenbaum and the Texas Global team for their dedication over the past three years in bringing this event to life.

Through this Summit, our alumni association has gained greater visibility within the University, and we have taken an important first step in building a broader global alumni network—particularly across East Asia. With this momentum, we are now setting our sights on the future with several key initiatives.

First, we will actively develop alumni-led programs built around the diverse academic backgrounds represented at the Summit. For example, following connections made with the Dean of the College of Fine Arts during the event, we are currently planning a year-end alumni music program centered around our arts alumni.

Second, we will expand international engagement to position Korea as a hub for the East Asia Longhorn network. Building on the connections formed with alumni from Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and beyond, we will actively foster stronger regional ties. We are already in discussions with alumni leaders in Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Indonesia to organize an East Asia Alumni Summit in Japan next year.

Third, we aim to become a model alumni association that sets a global standard. The rapid growth and active engagement of our association—including this Summit—have drawn strong attention from both the University and other alumni groups. By systematically documenting and refining our efforts—from events and membership management to our website and the Alumni Cup—we aspire to build a practical playbook that other alumni organizations can follow.

The leadership team, including myself, will continue to give our very best throughout the remainder of the year. Once again, I sincerely ask for your continued interest and active participation.
